I grew up primarily with this type of music (especially as a Southerner), listening to live music with instruments being played in church, only to learn during my rock music journey that it was a black woman Gospel singer who shaped the sonic sound of American rock music. Things really do come full circle, and gospel music still carries that sound to this day. I’m officially a Buddhist now, but I enjoy digging into my roots every now and then.
